So, the window opened.
I am a BMW dealer in Plano, Texas. My racing team, Classic BMW Motorsports has a bunch of race cars that are prepped and ready to race. In fact one of my cars is a 2-time SCCA Runoffs Champion---that's their Super Bowl. The car has been so successful that the governing body, SCCA, penalized the car by adding weight (heavy=slow in racing) and they put an air restrictor on the engine (less air coming into the engine=slow in racing) with these changes the car's chances to compete, much less win races had been diminished. Guess what? SCCA lifted these penalties! And they also chose to hold the Runoffs at a track that we have had great success---Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. So, what would you do? The car is ready. The track is right, the penalties are gone.....
Let's go racing!
The march started a couple of months ago as we dusted off the BMW z4 roadster and convinced Toby Grahovec, who drove this car to a Championship a few years ago to give it a go. In the last few months we have won all of our qualifying races---most with very few cars in our class---and we have qualified for the big race....We really don't know if we can still compete, but we will be at the Runoffs in September!
My team will spend the next 60 plus days trying to get everything possible out of this car. We will tear the engine down and rebuild it, test the suspension for any weaknesses that can be bettered with new parts and we will do some testing here in Texas. Cross your fingers, and say a little racing prayer for us. This is a chance that I never thought I would get, with a lot of preparation, a huge amount of skill and a little luck, we might bring home another National Championship.
